Description (physical)

The quote comes from Winston Churchill’s speech to the House of Commons on 4th June 1940, broadcast by the BBC the same day, following the withdrawal of the British Army from Dunkirk. The plaque is designed in the style of the LNER posters advertising the east coast resorts, with a high horizon showing families playing on the sands at low tide, with barbed wire in the foreground and the beach guarded by a soldier with a rifle.

Description (iconographical)

It forms part of part of the the town-centre Heritage Trail, commissioned by Sheringham Plus, leading from the architectural award-winning Oddfellows Hall in town, to the seafront and back to town again to The Leas on The Esplanade, in front of the Burlington Hotel.
