Description (physical)

Early in 2011 Acle High School celebrated its five year partnership with Norfolk County Council Countryside and Environment team with a commission of sets of totem poles in four locations, north from the car park at St Andrews church. The colourful painted poles are set in four locations ( with 5, 7, 9 and 11 poles) and the poles range from one metre to two and a half in height. They were painted on stripped logs provided by Andy Williams with designs inspired, according to the hand out at the start of the trail, by an exhibition of Op Art at the Castle Museum and by North American Totem Poles. This installation is part of their exam GCSE coursework, under the supervision of Karen Letort and Sally Curtis of the Acle High School Art Department Their 2009 installation, now all but vanished, is recorded in the composite on the website. That was inspired by local habitats and produced by year 10 students at Acle High School, working with Jessica Perry, based at Blickling. At that date some plaster mushrooms from 2005 remained, as well as totem poles from 2006. The work formed part of the GCSE coursework, but is imaginative and inventive and worth recording in the archive.
