Description (physical)

Two nearly naked allegorical figures are set above the main door in front of a niche. They flank a beehive. The woman holds a bundle and a flame set in a boat, the man holds scales with a helmet at his feet which rest on the edge of his cloak

Description (iconographical)

The symbolism is chosen to represent the bank - the scales for weighing out money and the beehive for industry. The flame identifies the woman as a Vestal Virgin - the embodiment of the purity (in this case honesty) of their business - and her fasces (bundle tied together) its authority which is echoed in his helmet. The classical imagery sits somewhat oddly with the figures who embody the essence of late 1920s chic in their facial types and hairstyles
