Description (physical)

Large abstract steel sculpture in the form of a giant wedge- installed as if it has been hammered into the ground adjacent to the Studio

Description (iconographical)

The Wedge is an amusing and eye-catching installation that also has formal interest as minimalist site-specific sculpture. The hammering suggested by the embedded installation may relate to the work done in the studio that it is installed again. More importantly the various angles of the end and top and bottom edges relate to the immediate and surrounding architecture as well as playing off against a leafy backdrop. A large urn has now (2010) been placed under it to prevent people walking into the wedge. Under the leadership of Ian Chance Wingfield Arts and Music were housed in Wingfield Barns in 2000, following the conversion of the Grade II listed timber framed barn built in 1537. Following the closure of the Wingfield Arts Trust in 2007 the buildings and the sculptures were taken over by the local authority, Mid Suffolk District Council and have now reopened as Wingfield Barns Arts Centre.
