Description (iconographical)

The sculpture, commissioned in 2014 by the church following the refurbishment of their buildings in 2013, was unveiled on 01 April 2016. The commission was for a sculpture which caught the eye of and welcomed visitors. The inscription was chosen to encourage the congregation to put their trust in God. The photographs on the church’s sculpture website show the development of the desig: from two pencil drawings of the artist’s hands, through a mould of his hand, expanded into a full size polystyrene model, which formed the basis for the cast. This must then have been cut into small sheets which were welded together with the text on the right hand 'I HOLD AND AM HELD’ not yet in place. The proposal for 'I PUT MY HOPE IN GOD' for the left hand was not included in the final work. The later photos on he church sculpture website show the preparation of the site and the installation.
